Celebrating the year of the Snake
In Chinese culture, each year in the 12-year zodiac cycle is associated with a specific animal. The snake is the sixth animal in the zodiac, and in Chinese astrology, it is linked to the element of fire. This element is said to give Snakes a strong sense of self-confidence and a passion for life. Snakes are also believed to be creative and artistic, with a deep appreciation for beauty and aesthetics. We are excited for 2025 and the Year of the Snake.
Growing up in Spain, Chinese New Year was always a special time for our families. Our parents would decorate our home with red lanterns and spring couplets, and we would gather with extended family for a traditional feast. The highlight of the celebration was always the lion dance, which we would watch with awe and excitement.
After living in the United States for over 20 years, we still celebrate Chinese New Year, but it has taken on a different flavor. We continue to have a family gathering with extended members we don’t get to see throughout the year, but we also incorporate many Western traditions into our celebration.
One of the things we love most about celebrating Chinese New Year in the U.S. is the opportunity to share our culture with American friends and neighbors. We often invite them to join our family festivities, share red envelopes (small amounts of cash) with their children, and enjoy homemade spring rolls and pork dumplings. It’s a great way to build bridges between cultures and create a more inclusive community.
Celebrating Chinese New Year in the U.S. is also a time for reflection and gratitude. It reminds us of the importance of honoring our heritage while embracing the multiculturalism of a global, inclusive society. As an American fashion brand with Spanish and Chinese heritage, we are committed to using our platform to amplify diverse voices and contribute to a more inclusive and accepting fashion industry.
As we look forward to the Year of the Snake, let us embrace its energy of transformation and growth. May this be a year of creativity, passion, and artistic expression. May we all find beauty in the world around us and use our voices to create a more inclusive and vibrant fashion industry. Together, let us celebrate the Year of the Snake with hope, optimism, and a commitment to building a better future for all.
新年快乐 (Happy New Year) Carmen and Aaron
